Our Services
The Water Quality Control Division’s goal is to conduct business in an ethical manner that promotes excellent customer service, communication, integrity and efficiency. This Division is responsible for:
- Operation & maintenance of the City's water wells and water distribution system;
- Operation & maintenance of the City's sanitary sewer system and brand new Water Reclamation Facility;
- Operation & maintenance of the City's storm drain system;
- Operation of the City's new laboratory;
- Administration of the City's contract for garbage services with Tri-Cities Disposal (run by Monterey City Disposal Service, Inc.) under the Joint Powers Agreement with all the Southern Monterey County cities;
- Administration of the City's closed Landfill;
- Management of the City's programs for:
- Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) projects for Water and Wastewater;
- Fats, Oils & Greases (FOG) Program;
- Hydrants Program, in partnership with the Fire Department;
- Pre-Treatment Program;
- Recycled Water Program; and
- Urban Water Management Program;
- Ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations pertaining to the labratory, recycled water, solid waste, storm water, water and wastewater.
The Water Quality Control Division has the following four sections: Solid Waste Operations, Stormwater Operations, Water Operations and Wastewater Operations. The sections are supported by WQC Administration and the City's Laboratory.
